Bucket lists can help you get a sense of what you have left to discover in the world. If you’re looking for inspiration for your bucket list, read on for insights into how to make those dreams happen.
Everyone can benefit from creating a bucket list that represents who they are and what they want out of life. Simply put, a bucket list is the experiences, achievements, or goals that you hope to incorporate into your life.
Here are a few ideas that could help you determine what should and shouldn’t be on your bucket list, and how to go about preparing to check items off your list.
HOLD YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE
The best way to ensure you stay on top of your bucket list is to hold yourself accountable. Telling friends and family about your bucket list adds pressure and might help push you to actually accomplish your goals. Keep your bucket list where you’ll see it on a regular basis to remind you of all that you’ve pledged to achieve in your lifetime.
Skimp on the small stuff. While your bucket list can include specific, short-term tasks that you’re passionate about achieving, your list should be mainly composed of bigger-picture goals that may take years to accomplish. Your day-to-day goals likely weigh heavily on you already, so reserve your bucket list for things you’ve always dreamed of doing.
DREAM (REALISTICALLY) BIG
You might begin to feel overwhelmed once your bucket list starts filling up with lifelong aspirations and goals. Don’t hold back on adding long-term goals just because they don’t seem attainable now. After all, you’ve got the rest of your life to complete your list.
However, try to be realistic about your bucket list and add only things that you feel comfortable about completing. This means you might want to keep your plan about journeying to the moon to yourself.
COLLABORATE WITH OTHERS
Your friends and family are integral to your life, so naturally they should be involved in creating your bucket list. Whether you’ve always wanted to travel to France or surf in Australia, it’s likely your loved ones share similar passions and will want to join you. Committing to plans with others will make you more likely to work through your bucket list and do so with people you care about.
